Ballet Exam Information (Graded & Vocational Exams)

Hair for exams - two braided/plaits into a ponytail along with a normal ballet bun with net and plenty of bobby pins to keep it secure. Place your comb with ribbon at the top of your ballet bun. Shown below:

  • Information
    • Ballet exams are conducted through the Royal Academy of Dance, these exams are optional.
    • The level required for these exams is of a high standard, requiring consistent attendance at class and conscientious practice at home. Available private lessons on appointment only.
    • Graded Ballet exams can be held throughout the year during Covid-19 Lockdowns. (Students must attend classes twice a week)
    • Students at Primary level who wish to take their exam must be 7 years or over.
    • Attend Ballet twice a week (Minimum requirement)
    • Teachers will choose which Ballet classes are appropriate for your child.
    • Parents will be invited to watch a ballet class later during the year; this provides an appreciation of the requirements of the syllabus and will assist you in supporting your child’s practice.
    • Please see Shirley Rogers about Vocational examinations: Students must be prepared to commit to ballet at least 4 classes or more a week. To obtain a certain standard required by the RAD. (Grade 8, Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced).
  • Conditions
    • If you wish your child to undertake an R.A.D. Ballet/Character graded examination, they will be required to attend 2 or 3 ballet classes every week in order to cover the grades syllabus.
    • Students must practice the grades syllabus they have learnt each week at home.
    • Students who miss more than 3 classes a term will not be eligible to take their exam, however students have an option to arrange private classes with the principle at an additional cost. If the above is not adhered too your child will forfeit their exam fee.
    • Exam fees are payable in addition to our standard class fees.
    • We also arrange mock exams during the week prior to the exams; a separate fee is also charged.
    • All examination students must attend Compulsory Extra Classes over the School Holidays, additional costs are charged for these classes. Students may be able to attend due to Covid-19 restrictions either The Royal Academy of Dance syllabus workshop held in Melbourne or the Shirley Rogers Academy of Dance Examination syllabus work-shop or have individual private lessons, (no less than 3 private classes).
